ON PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Below I share my note written about 20 years ago when I discovered a more systematic way to manage projects. I started working in JKR in 1976 and did project management according to the departmental procedure and practice for 25 years before I discover PMI and APM. I got online only in 1995 via Jaring and managed to learn more online and discovered PMBOK- Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Now, we made some progress to improve project management but not good enough. Project Management in construction and IT are still struggling and we lack application and practice in business projects. I hope the new Unity Government will pay more attention to ensure the government projects achieve their goals and objectives. Most people think they can do project management. It is true to a point but are they competent to deliver the project? The project failures speak for themselves.
Projects are perceived to be a great quick money-making endeavour for some people. Those who are actually doing the project know that every project is hard work. I knew what it takes to complete a project.(Talking from experience)
Thousands of projects costing billion of ringgit are undertaken by the government and private sector. We need more competent project managers. Sadly, we do not allocate more funds to train project managers. It is time to act now. Failure is not an option. Tomorrow is too late.
---------------------------------------------------------------
When I discover Project Management Institute(USA) and Association for Project Management(UK) in early 2000, I just wonder why we in Malaysia still do not have a body or an institution for Project Management or for Project Managers? As far as I know and I could remember, we Malaysians have been doing thousands and billions of ringgit of projects.
How could this happen to us? Are we not concerned about the standard of project management and the quality of our project managers?

Thank you Kamal for your feedback and suggestion.
Different definition of LEADERSHIP......it should HUMAN DEVELOPMENT.....after systemisation for AUTOMATION....we must have human development for EXPANSION....and all done with cost management (profit management) and risk management.
